Hot Pools and Cold Thrills
It was a cold winter morning with snow falling gently in the mountains. Considering this was a rare event this winter, I dragged Sara out of bed, packed a bag, grabbed some gators and headed to the mountains.
The destination was San Antonio Hot Springs.
It seems that all hot springs in New Mexico are developed as a 'bath house' or trashed. San Antonio Hot Springs, however, require a 3 to 5 mile hike from the main road. A journey just long enough to keep most of the crowds out and allow for some privacy.
We got there early and set out through the shin-high snow. We were on an old logging road that eventually turned into a small winding trail along the side of a canyon that was home to the rushing San Antonio Creek.
After an hour or so we came across the springs. Noone around. We sat in those steaming pools for over an hour until it looked like I was the mutant child of a prune and man union.
We ate, hung out, and then started the snowy walk home.
